GAME RECAP
Freedom win in extra innings
Washington to start six-game road swing

Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, could not pull through in extra innings Tuesday night at CONSOL Energy Park as the Florence Freedom picked up a 5-4 win in 10 innings.

Reggie Watson hit the game winning home run (2) off Ian Heisel, giving Florence (10-10) its first win over Washington (13-6) this season.

The Wild Things had a chance to tie in the tenth when Nathan Messner hit a one-out double, but Washington was unable to push him home against reliever Jon Troop (1-0).

Robbie Knapp paced the offense for Washington going 2-for-4 with a double, run and two RBI.

Leftfielder Matt Sutton gave the Wild Things an early advantage in the first inning on a solo home run (4) to right field, but the Freedom were able to take the lead 3-1 in the second on two doubles, a hit batter and an RBI single by Greg Stone to cap off the frame.

After the Freedom added a run in the third, the Wild Things finally got to Florence starting pitcher Bill Konecny, who was making his professional debut out of Xavier University. Team RBI leader Knapp brought in two (23) with a double to the left-center gap, and Rene Quintana had a single that drove in Knapp to knot the game at 4-4.

The contest remained tied through nine full innings, as both bullpens made quick work of the offense. J.J. Hollenbeck and Ian Heisel (1-1) relieved starter Justin Staatz for Washington, only allowing one hit combined before the game reached extra innings.

The Wild Things will hit the road for their first out-of-division series with the Southern Illinois Miners starting Wednesday at 8:05 p.m. EST. The game can be head locally on WJPA 95.3-FM and online at www.msasportsnetwork.com.

Washington will return home Tuesday, June 19 at 7:05 p.m. to host the Miners at CONSOL Energy Park. For tickets, call the Wild Things box office at 724-250-9555.
