GAME RECAP
Wild Things Stay atop East Division with11-1 win over Freedom
Knapp and Gregula Both Hit 3-Run Homers

Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, continued their winning ways in front of a sellout crowd of 3,242 Sunday. They defeated visiting Florence Freedom 11-1 to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Centerfielder Reggie Watson wasted no time in putting the Freedom (2-3) ahead. Watson hit a solo home run to left field on the fourth pitch of the game. Wild Things starter Michael Hauff (1-0) responded by retiring the next three batters.

Florence’s lead didn’t stand for long. With Jarod Rine and Nathan Messner on base in the third inning, first baseman Robbie Knapp homered to left centerfield to take the lead 3-1. The Wild Things have now gone yard in three straight games and it was Knapp’s first homer of the year.

The lead continued to grow in the fourth with leftfielder Matt Sutton bringing in Rene Quintana on an infield single. Hauff maintained the lead by striking out one batter after the other. He recorded nine strikeouts and gave up only one hit in five innings of work

The runs kept coming. In the fifth inning, Second baseman Justin Gregula hit two-out RBI double to right field to score Ben Ramsey. The hit pushed the lead to four runs.

The sixth inning proved to be the clincher for Washington. Centerfielder Chris Sidick kept up his impressive hit streak. He began the sixth inning with a lead off triple extending the streak to three games. Sidick scored on the next play on an error to move the Wild Things lead to 6-1. Ramsey added to the lead with an RBI single to right field, bringing home Rine from second base. Knapp put up his fourth RBI of the game with a double. The next batter, Justin Gregula kept the Wild Things offense rolling with a 3-run-homer to left field to push the lead to ten runs.

Pitcher Justin Staatz pitched four scoreless innings to close the game out for the Wild Things. He added four strikeouts of his own to give Washington 13 total.

The Wild Things finish their home stand with the Freedom on Memorial Day at CONSOL Energy Park at 2:05 p.m. For tickets, call the box office at 724-250-9555.
