GAME RECAP
Wild Things swing hot bats in 13-3 win
Washington sweeps two-game series

Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, followed up an eight-run outburst Friday with another productive day offensively for a 13-3 victory over the Florence Freedom.

Six Wild Things batters had multiple-hit games. Chris Sidick went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored while Matt Sutton was 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI.

Washington native Patrick Sadler (1-0) won his first professional start against the Freedom. He gave up only three hits, which were all in the first inning, and struck out two in five innings of work.

The Wild Things (3-1) wasted no time mimicking Friday’s early offensive production with four hits and four runs in the first inning. Sutton started things off with two-run home run (1) over the left field wall to plate leadoff hitter Sidick for a 2-0 lead. Washington added two more runs in the first when Ben Ramsey brought in Jarod Rine with an RBI double, and catcher Pat O’Brien followed with a groundout to short to score Nathan Messner from third base.

Florence (2-2) responded with a strong first of its own to cut the lead to 4-3. Beau Blacken’s RBI single to left field scored Greg Stone from second base for the first run. Then with runners at first and second, designated hitter Josh Lex sent a shot that ricocheted off the bottom of the center field wall for a triple to score both runners.

Washington added another run in the third inning with Messner’s solo home run (1) to give the Wild Things a 5-3 advantage.

Messner scored a third time in the fifth inning after rounding the bases on another Ramsey RBI double to left field. Wild Things shortstop Kyle Padgett had an RBI single as well in the fifth and also scored on a Sidick single on a close play at the plate. Because of Padgett’s collision with catcher Eddie Gonzalez at the dish, Kyle Werman came home to score as the ball squirted away, making it a 9-3 game.

Four was the magic number for the Wild Things as they added another four runs in the seventh inning. Padgett had an RBI single then scored on a Sidick sacrifice fly. Rine brought home Werman with a triple to round out the scoring for the game.

The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park Sunday to host Florence at 6:35 p.m. and for an afternoon game Monday at 2:05 p.m. For tickets, call the box office at 724-250-9555.
