Wild Things Suffer First Loss of the 2007 Season 6-2
Washington Splits Series with Slippery Rock
Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, experienced their first loss of their sixth season Thursday night, falling 6-2 to the visiting Slippery Rock Sliders.
Leftfielder Robbie Knapp got the scoring started for the Wild Things with an RBI double down the left field line in the second inning. First basemen Nathan Messner scored on the hit.
The visiting Sliders threatened to take the lead in the third by loading the bases with only one out. Second basemen Rene Quintana made a leaping catch up the middle and pitcher Tom Cochran was able to get centerfielder Nate Yoho to fly out to end the inning. He finished the night with five no-hit innings.
The Sliders got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning with Nate Yoho scoring on an RBI by first basemen Jason Von Behren. Slippery Rock took the lead when designated hitter Jason Curry scored another run on an RBI single by right fielder Casey Bowling.
Slippery Rock pushed its lead to two runs in the seventh when former Wild Thing Jarrod Klausman tripled to right field and then scored on an RBI single by second baseman Kory Lonergan.
The Wild Things came within one run in the eighth inning when Messner brought shortstop Kyle Padgett home on a base hit to left field. That was as close as they got as the Sliders scored three runs in the ninth to move and keep the score 6-2.
The loss dropped the Wild Things to 1-1 on the season and tied for second place in the East division.
The Wild Things travel to Florence, KY Friday for two games against the East division leading Freedom and return to CONSOL Energy Park Sunday to host Florence at 6:35 p.m. and for an afternoon game Monday at 2:05 p.m. For tickets, call the box office at 724-250-9555.
